About Nani
Welcome to my website. I'm a qualified humanistic integrative psychotherapist and counsellor with ten years of experience in the field working with adults, including five years as a domestic violence counsellor in London for Woman's Trust.
I trained at The Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (C.C.P.E) in London, which is a UKCP (The United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and BACP (The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) accredited training, leading to a post-graduate diploma in Psychotherapy and Counselling.
A central aspect of my approach to therapy is the development of a relationship with my clients in which I strive to meet them with warmth, respect, empathy and understanding in the context of their unique humanness and personal circumstances . My aim is to provide my clients with a safe space where they can explore often difficult issues, emotions and thoughts without fear of judgement. My approach is integrative, this means that I tailor the therapy to the client's specific needs, drawing on a variety of theories and techniques from different schools of therapy such as the Existential, Psychodynamic, Humanistic and Transpersonal. The Integrative approach to therapy is holistic, recognising the interconnectedness of mind, body and spirit.
I have experience working with a variety of issues including: physical, emotional and sexual abuse, relationship difficulties, domestic violence, feelings of low self-worth, low self-esteem, post-traumatic stress, issues with self-expression and communication, lack of meaning and purpose in life, issues with personal boundaries, depression, co-dependency, trauma, abandonment issues, bereavement, coming to terms with divorce, lack of assertiveness, lack of authenticity, body image issues etc.
I abide to the code of ethics as set out by the BACP and I receive ongoing supervision. I work in English and Spanish.
The Therapy
My aim as a therapist is to provide my clients with a safe environment in which there is no threat of judgement, where they can express themselves openly and at their own pace. Life can be overwhelming at times, it can be difficult to see the way forward. You may be going through a painful divorce, bereavement, or your relationships don't work out. You might have become aware of certain patterns in your life that you don't know how to change. Such as:
- Why do I always pick abusive men/women?
- Why do I feel so depressed and lacking energy?
- Why do I feel this sense of emptiness and isolation?
Each life crisis presents us with an opportunity to grow and develop. At times like these it can be crucial to seek the support of a trained professional who can help you make sense of your life, feelings and options. One of the most healing aspects of therapy is simply being heard and validated. The time that we spend together is dedicated entirely to you.
The first session is normally an assessment for both of us to ascertain wether we can work together. The therapeutic relationship, like any other relationship, has to have the right elements. After the first session you or I might decide not to take it forward.
The Integrative approach to Psychotherapy combines elements of the Humanistic, Existential, Transpersonal and Psychodynamic schools of therapy into a highly effective mode of working. It allows me the flexibility to draw on different tools and techniques to tailor the therapy to the individual needs of my clients at any particular time.
As part of your therapy, and always with your consent, we may work with: Chair work, Visualizations, Dreams, Drawing, Role Play etc, for you to gain a deeper insight into yourself and your situation. Psychotherapy and Counselling can help you to reconnect with your inner wisdom and resources, and to find your own creative ways and solutions to move forward.
I'm a trained counsellor and psychotherapist. I work both long and short-term depending on the specific needs of my clients.
Confidentiality is considered to be extremely important in therapy. All details of my clients' life and personal identity remain strictly confidential.
